FAKE Users

Is there an area in this site where members can post "fake" users? If not, is it possible for an admin to create an area under "FORUMS" (possibly highlighted) where members can report their experiences (fake user names, e-mails etc.)? This would be very helpful to other members of this site not to get spammed or fooled by these fake users. Of course we can't eliminate them totally, but with the help from each other we can minimize these activities.

We have had some responses (here and other polygamy sites) where the person was looking for a family to join. In fact, it was a man acting like a woman (sick fantasy) or someone overseas. Some of these fakes users can be filtered out by screening pics they send, IP trace, e-mail languages and most importantly asking the person to do VIDEO CHAT and PHONE #. We usually ask for video chat and phone # right away. That is when the hell freezes over. That would the last e-mail you will ever receive. haha.. Anyway, the point is to share fake e-mail addresses, user names etc. so that we can alert others and don't waste our time. After all we are here to get help or help others.

Just putting my 2 cents...hope you will find this helpful. Thank you.

I never give my phone number out first thing. And I don't generally do video chat quickly either. I dont think its a good idea to hand out my personal info so quickly. But that could just be me and I'm more then a tad paranoid but most single mothers are. And just because some doesn't give out there info right away doesn't mean they are fake

I agree. No one has to give

I agree. No one has to give out info right away. Everyone has a different comfort level which is fine. When it comes to us, we don't waste our time. Lets chat first, break the ice and then show me your face/you see us. We see so many strangers on the street and talk everyday. One stranger on the webcam not a big deal. No personal info gets shared while doing a video chat. We understand if someone is not comfortable right way. So say, "I don't feel comfortable". We will understand. You are ready to move in, planning to get married and have kids in our first "chat session" but you are not willing to show your face...lol living in a fantasy world....Sorry, total waste of time! :)

Videochat

I would want to do video chat after a conversation assuring compatibility.

If they don't want to video or are vague than I would move on.

other ways

It's just my 2 cents but you can chat online with someone everyday for weeks but until you talk with them and meet them you won't get to know them. There are ways to talk with someone without giving your number out. There is Skype and dialing *67 before the number and it blocks your number from showing up. It's not all ways easy for some to chat online speaking from personal experience lol.

There are work 'rounds you can use.

You can get a voip number dirt cheap to free so that it is not tied to your actual identity. So investigating them might be a good idea. I can tell you that not being willing to do video chat soon will be off-putting for some. I get the paranoia about personal safety big time... I am for personal safety especially for the ladies the way some of our regular posters are for their scripture, so I am not faulting you but just saying that it will put some on their guard if you are not willing to chat online. You should not give out personal details during this by any means though as you already most likely know.

This may be a sticky issue.

Although, I wholeheartedly agree with this idea in principle, would it put this web site in danger of being sued?

What I do...

Comment:

Is to report suspicious accounts that contact me to our host. I did so recently when contacted by a fake user/scammer type with a very cut and paste style email saying that "she" was interested in me and mine. Yeeeah.... danger Will Robinson. My profile is explicit about not looking for wives and even if I were I like every other sane person would be suspicious of this email. It was just obviously hinkey. So I told the site owner about it and on the same day I was told by two different single woman on the site that they had also received the same email verbatim. So suspicions confirmed. Happily the account is no longer extant and one more scammer that would victimize the people on the site has been bumped at least for the time being.
