Today I had a conversation with someone who wanted to know more about polygamy. Where I understand (after all these years) that many ask out of simple curiousity. The conversation went through all the normal turns, what does the Bible say concerning polygamy, how do you make it work and so on.
Then they came up with a question that showed me how many view polygamy. They asked why Laurie didn't wear those "old fashion dresses?" Many tend to try and lump all polygamist into one view or another. Sometimes stating a stand for polygamy is kind of like saying your a Christian. What's your flavor? Polygamy runs such a wide gambit of religions and social views.
The key here is understanding that not everyone who watches sister wives or any othe the other shows have any idea of how vast our community is.
A true Christian polygamist household is one where the focus of the family is Christ. In that state self takes a backseat to the whole. A true Christian husband is one who places the wants and needs of the family above his own. He is in all truth the servant of all. Most importantly, he loves his family as Christ loved, even to the point of laying down his life for his family.
